Personal Development and Counselling Skills



Overview

This 60-hour course is designed to help participants gain a better understanding of themselves and others.


The experiential nature of the course promotes a powerful environment for personal learning and growth and is designed to help participants explore how to create healthier interactions with family members, friends and others.  Listening skills are developed to help participants offer appropriate support to others.


No previous training or experience is required, however a willingness to openly explore and share with others is necessary.  Each group will have between eight and sixteen members.



Progression

This course does not constitute a professional qualification as a Counsellor or Psychotherapist; however, for those interested in a professional training, this course will be a useful introduction to the work and an asset to your application for any further training.



Anticipated Outcomes

The anticipated outcomes of this course are:


        greater self-awareness and sense of personal choice and responsibility

        greater self-worth and confidence

        greater compassion with others

        greater ability to hold a safe and therapeutic space for others

        more authentic relationships with others personally and professionally

        more effective communication skills in relationships



Course Content

Section 1:  Personal Development (24 hours)

Participants develop increased personal awareness and interpersonal skills while exploring the key areas of self-esteem, communication and assertiveness.


Section 2:  Introduction to the Person-Centred Approach (18 hours)

Participants are introduced to the Person-Centred Approach and explore how this approach can impact every aspect of their lives and relationships.


Section 3:  Counselling Skills (18 hours)

Participants are introduced to basic Counselling Skills and through experiential practice learn how to use these skills in offering practical support to family, friends and others.



Assessment

There are no assessments in this course however activities to consolidate the learning will be discussed and encouraged.  Participants attending a minimum of 80% of the course will receive a Certificate of Attendance.  



Delivery Format

This course is being held online via Zoom, therefore a good internet connection will be essential.


Sixteen evenings (Wednesdays 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm Irish Standard Time) and two full days  (10:00 am - 5:00 pm).


N.B.  All courses are subject to a minimum enrolment of eight participants. 



Cost

The cost of this programme is €30 per 3-hour session.  A deposit of €100.00 is taken to hold a place and five monthly instalments of €100.00 will be required thereafter.
